On Sunday the 4th December 2005 the EMDHR launched its first Magazine, ‘Meseley’, in Johannesburg city, the Republic of South Africa. ‘Meseley’ is produced as part of the civic awareness project run by the EMDHR under the motto of “Affairs of the people by the people”.  In the launching ceremony, members of the EMDHR escorted the magazine from EMDHR office in Pretoria to the heart of Eritrean community, the ‘Jeppe Street’ in Johannesburg, dressed in t-shirts. The magazine received a warm welcome by the Eritrean community in South Africa. While this was going on, ‘Meseley’ was also sent to all the provinces in South Africa and  major cities around the world.

The main goal of this magazine is to build the awareness of the general public and serve as a media in the absence of any Eritrean independent media. Moreover, the newsletter is expected to engage the general public in civic education towards deliberate and sustainable awareness. Considering the lack of internet access and language barrier, ‘Meseley’ is produced in Tigringa language, and is designed in such a way that it gives a summarized version of what is said on the Eritrean websites which is mostly published in English.  This is expected to render enormous service to the Eritrean communities.

‘Meseley’ is a 20 pages monthly Magazine. The contents are defined around three core concepts with an Eritrean context: human rights, rule of law and activism. It also includes informative and analytical contents along with some entertainments, sport, cartoons and posters. The magazine also gives a special emphasis to the Eritrean youth in terms of professionalism, art and culture.

Meseley’ is edited, produced and distributed by member and non-member volunteers in the office of EMDHR which constitute the Magazine team. However a great deal of its contents is also covered by contributions from different sites of the world.

On this occasion, the team would like to invite all Eritreans and friend of Eritrea to build  and enable ‘Meseley’ to educate us all towards awareness and comprehension.
